Sometimes it is the smallest of accomplishments...

It's amazing how sometimes just the smallest accomplishment can make such a big difference in your attitude. As I've said, I am already locked into completing the running leg of a short-course triathlon in less than a month. Yes, I've know about it for a while. Yes, I know I should have started training earlier. We've all been there at least once, right?

Usually, I am not one for running/walking outside. I love the treadmill. However, this morning I left my husband and children behind and took off on a 2.5 mile course I plotted out online. I had intended to run for two minutes and walk for two minutes, which didn't happen. I did, on the other hand, run the wrong way on my course and ended up adding an extra leg to the journey thanks to the fact that my phone app was showing me a map view...not the navigation view I thought I was looking at. Oh, well.

Here are the small acomplishments:
  • I walked/ran outside
  • I left my family behind to do it (there is a reason I usually take off for the gym before my kids wake up)
  • I actually finished the course (there was a point where I felt some pain in my right leg and I really considered heading back in...it worked itself out)
  • I maintained a pretty good pace for someone who hasn't been to the gym for a while...a great baseline for the start of a new running program (my fastest speed was 6.1 mph...awesome for me)
So, I'm proud of myself. Yep, I'm tooting my own horn...and it feels pretty good.
